Pruning

I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you John 15:1-3

Today is Maundy Thursday in the traditional church calendar. Where we, as Christ’s followers, remember that upper room discourse and Jesus washing His disciples’ feet, eating the Passover meal with them, and praying for them before His great passion suffering.

Today in North Carolina it is a perfectly rainy day to spend time, even if it’s not until tonight in the quiet, to allow the Lord to wash away all the “dirt on the feet” that we have picked up in our walk. Any impurity of thought or body or heart – and allow Him to refresh us anew and remind us that we ARE already declared clean! Thanks to His suffering.

It’s a day of reflection to tend to the weeds of the heart and allow His cleansing love to prune out anything that’s been choking out His spirit’s work and to be refreshed anew! This verb prune (καθαίρει / kathairei) means to cleanse or purify.

I pray each of us will take the time today to get with Him in a quiet corner and allow His purifying love to revive and refresh and build great spiritual health back into the branch.

And as He “washes our feet” once again, He will then remind us, “you are already clean!”

Oh Lord let us honor you by being quick to run to you anytime we sense any sort of weed creeping into the garden of our hearts. Help us be quick to confess any impurity or anything getting in the way of us remaining satisfied in you… with hearts full of gratitude because of your great love. Help us abide in your love and every.single.day remember the agony you went through for our rest and peace.

Give us glimpses of your glory Jesus! 🕊️ And may it turn into a beautiful harvest of holiness and love for your honor.
