God is strong. God is loving.

Walking with God through Suffering

Life on earth really can be so hard. There’s such deep heartache, the ever-demanding rat race we are bombarded with, suffering in so many forms. Questions swirl – about theology, doctrine, society, politics. There’s so much chaos, misunderstanding, disunity, division, dysfunction… things really do feel out of order. It’s easy to get weighed down, to feel overwhelmed by all that is happening.

But this morning, the Lord encouraged my heart with a simple yet deeply anchoring reminder:

“One thing God has spoken; two things have I heard: that You, O God, are strong, and that You, O Lord, are loving.” – Psalm 62:11-12a

The first part is a Hebrew idiom, emphasizing certainty – that these truths are settled in the deepest places of the Psalmist’s heart:

💎 God is strong. He is sovereign over all. He sees everything. Nothing is beyond His control. He will not let evil and darkness go on forever. In His time and His way, He will intervene, bring justice, and have the final victory.

💎 God is loving. His mercy never wavers. His kindness is steadfast. His compassion is trustworthy. Even in the waiting, even when we don’t understand, we can trust His heart. He is using all things for the good of those who love Him.

If He were only strong but not loving, He would be distant and harsh. If He were only loving but not strong, He would be kind but powerless. But He is both. Mighty to save, tender to comfort.

I don’t know much and feel like the more I know, the more I realize I don’t know…. but I am certain of this: We can cling to His Word. It is truly Spirit-breathed, a firm foundation, and the revelation of the One True God. It has been scrutinized and proven true over and over for generations.

So we can trust what He reveals about Himself in it. Which means we can rest in the certainty of the simple promises from this Psalm: He is sovereign, almighty, and powerful… and at the same time, He is good, kind, and merciful.

Clinging to that truth and His light today.
